Tomato Chutney (Thakkali Chutney)

This is a famous South Indian  Recipie. It tastes good with dosa and idli.
It requires very less preparation time and makes your breakfast a rich one.
Lets see how to prepare this.

Ingredients:(Servings 2 nos)
  1. Tomato   -- 2 nos
  2. Onion -- 1
  3. Coconut - 2 long thick slices 
  4. Urad Dal -- 1/2 table spoon
  5. Mustard seeds -- 1 spoon
  6. Dried Red Chillies -- 4 nos
  7. Curry Leaves
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Oil -- 3 spoons
How to prepare Tomato Chutney:
  • Cut onion and tomato's into medium size cubes.
  • Cut coconut slices into small and thin pieces.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add 1/2  spoon urad dal, onion and tomato cubes, dried red chillies and saute them until the urad dal turns golden brown.Allow it to cool a bit.Add the coconut pieces and  grind it into a fine paste.( add little water , chutney should be in a semi solid state for better taste).
  • Now heat oil in a frying pan, add 1/2 spoon mustard seeds,  urad dal and curry leaves.
  • When urad dal turns golden brown add the chutney, saute for 5-10 secs.
Hot and spicy tomato chutney is ready.Serve it with dosas and idlies.
